Local Outreach
The purpose of Local Outreach is block by block redemption of the city of Houston by prayerfully serving each House Church’s “local predicament.”
What are the elements of Local Outreach?
Local Predicament:
A local predicament is clear evidence of brokenness or darkness in or near your geographic area. Each House Church is asked to consider how to uniquely obey God’s call to personally sacrifice and show mercy to others (Luke 10:25-37).
If someone in your HC is actively involved in a cause, we would love for your HC to consider coming alongside them as opposed to a strictly geographic focus.
Your HC is welcome to partner with a local organization that is already serving the least of our city, but it is not a requirement.
Local Outreach Coordinator (LOC):
A Local Outreach Coordinator is a required member of your House Church. This person will recieve training to help review opportunities, gain momentum, and utilize funds.
House Churches are given $1,000 each HC Calendar Year (August-May).
Note: This money is NOT to be used for internal purposes, such as Meal Nights or Neighborhood block parties, or to write off as a donation.
See the HC Mission Umbrella on Meal Night Philosophy for more info.
What is your role as a Shepherd?
The Shepherd serves Local Outreach in two ways:
Finding an LOC who will handle logistics
Championing your group toward eager participation in Local Outreach
Reframe Local Outreach not as a donation fund or one-time service project, but as active participation in Gospel renewal - in your neighborhood.
Pray for your group to care deeply about God’s movement in the city by loving on those in physical or spiritual poverty.
