Vision of House Church
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their posessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.
And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they recieved their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42-47
What is House Church?
Seven Mile Road is a congregation of House Churches - groups of people cultivating relationships with God, one another, and the community. These groups are designed to meet at the intersection of Word and Prayer, Meal and Mission. House Church is the primary way to connect with others at Seven Mile Road and engage our city.
Why the term “House Church”?
Biblical Term - The NT often describes groups meeting in homes as “house churches” (Romans 16:5, 1 Corinthians 16:19, Colossians 4:15, Philemon 1:2). Though often still connected to the larger local church for corporate worhsip, members carried out communal life and mission to each other’s homes during the week.
Adds Gravity - This terminology communicates that the home is primary place where our life as a community unfolds.
Raises the Bar for Shepherds - Shepherds will not necessarily be pastors or elders, but they are the “frontlines of pastoral care” for the people of Seven Mile Road.
